Professor of Philosophy

Dr. Madarasz is an international specialist in political philosophy and contemporary French philosophy. He is author of five books and editor of ten collected volumes in English, French and Portuguese. He has published over eighty essays and book chapters in peer-reviewed academic journals over a broad range of questions related to ethics, politics, history, religion, language and logic. He has supervised over thirty Master’s and Ph.D. projects, and has been an invited speaker at some of Brazil’s leading universities and in Canada, the U.S and France. He has edited ten issues of academic periodicals and is a contributing editor of Veritas, one of Brazil’s leading philosophy journals. At the undergraduate level, he has been lecturer in the departments of Business Administration, Law, Philosophy, History and Literary Sciences in a host of universities. Dr. Madarasz holds a Ph.D. in Contemporary French Philosophy from Université Paris 8 (Vincennes à Saint-Denis), a Bachelor of Arts with honours from McGill University and a DEC in Science from Marianopolis CEGEP in Montreal. In 2011, Dr. Madarasz was also awarded a D. Litt. from Monarch Business School Switzerland.

Dr. Madarasz studied philosophy as an undergraduate at McGill University, where he graduated with honours in 1986. He later studied at the Université de Paris 8 and Collège international de philosophie, where he was awarded the French Maîtrise, Diplôme d’études approfondies and, in 1999, the Doctorat (Mention Très Bien avec Félicitations du jury/Summa cum Laude). The latter two were earned under the supervision of Alain Badiou, one of France’s most celebrated philosophers. In 2007, he was granted a professorship with tenure at Universidade Gama Filho (UGF), and was lecturer in the Law School of the Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He was appointed head of the Philosophy Department at UGF in 2010. Two years later, he was granted a professorship with tenure and hired as research fellow at PUC-RS in the graduate programs of philosophy and literature. At PUC-RS, he has held various administrative positions and has taught ethics and philosophy in the Schools of Law and of Management.

He is the author of six books, editor of ten collected volumes and translations, and over 70 peer-reviewed essays in English, French and Portuguese, in addition to dozens of think pieces on geopolitical and economic affairs. Dr. Madarasz has also worked as a consultant and translator for directors and managers at the Paris Bourse (SBF), GEC-Alsthom, Eletrobras, ONS-Brasil and Vale, among other companies. His areas of research include economic and social science theory, political philosophy and ethics, geopolitical history as well as the philosophy of sciences.
